Stopping at the road side
All drivers have to stop at the side of the road, but as a taxi driver you have to think of your passengers at all times and ensure that when you stop, your passengers are able to get in and out of your vehicle safely and conveniently.
Make sure that
- You pull up within a reasonable reason distance of the kerb, in apposition that is safe, legal and convenient
- You apply the handbrake and put the gear into neutral before your passenger opens the door.
- Your passenger can op nth door fully and that their entry or exit is not blocked by tress or street furniture-or lamp posts, waste bins, signs etc.
- You are there to help if your passenger needs assistance with loading or unloading luggage or they are not able to get in/out without assistance.
- All your passengers are comfortably seated before moving away.
Turning you vehicle around
As the taxi driver you're likely to have to turn your vehicle around more frequently than more other drivers - for example if you have just dropped of a driver and receive a call on your radio to pick up a fare in the opposite direction.
You should assess the situation and decide on the safest and more appropriate way to turn you should consider
- Making a U-turn within the width of the road.
- Using the mouth of a junction on the left or right in which to swing around.
- Turning in the road using forward and reverse gears.
- Reversing into a side road on your left or right
Never drive into a side road with the intention of reversing out into the main road and don't us private driveways to make your turn. Make sure that you don't mount kerb when you're turning around, as this could damage your vehicle. |
